Kennedy Named First Team All-SAC In Women's Golf


ROCK HILL, S.C. ( -- Catawba senior Madison Kennedy (Salisbury, N.C./Salisbury HS) was named to the 2015 South Atlantic Conference Women’s Golf all-conference first team.  Freshman Alexis Kershaw (Winston-Salem, N.C./Ledford HS) earned honorable mention honors.  It was announced by the league office on Thursday.

Newberry’s Marianna Monaco was voted the Women’s Golfer of the Year, while Ciara Rattana from Tusculum was named the Conference’s Freshman of the Year.  In addition, Newberry mentor Clarissa Childs was tabbed the Coach of the Year, the League announced today.

Kennedy leads Catawba this season with a team-low stroke average of 77.24.  Her adjusted stroke average by golf stat is 77.91.  The senior has posted three top 10 finishes on the season with a best finish of third at the Fill Moon BBQ Invitational.  Kennedy tied a school record during that tournament with a score of 69 in the opening round.

Kershaw is second to Kennedy with a 79.0 stroke average over her 17 rounds.  She shot a low score of 73 at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate.  It was one of two tournaments that Kershaw led Catawba and finished sixth.  She also had a top 10 at the Converse Spring Invite.

The 2015 South Atlantic Conference Women’s Golf Championship is slated for Sunday, April 12 through Monday, April 14.  Tee times will begin at 8:30am on all three days and will be contested at the Sevierville Golf Club in Sevierville, Tenn.
