Mordey Claims Lone Point For Men's Tennis At Queens
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The 36th-ranked Queens Royals men's tennis team topped visiting Catawba 8-1 in South Atlantic Conference action on Thursday afternoon at Freedom Park. The Royals improve to 12-2 overall and 7-2 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 13-10 and 3-7.
Queens, which is also ranked ninth in the region, swept the doubles to lead 3-0. The Royals won narrow 8-6 victories at the #1 and #2 flights. Zachary Williams took a straight-set win at #6 singles to put Queens one point away from the win. That point came on a three-set victory by Will Roberson at the #3 flight to secure the match.
Jack Mordey (Leighton Buzzard, England/Tring School) gave Catawba its lone point of the match with his three-set win at #2. Pierce Hoover (Durham, N.C./N. Durham HS) lost in three-sets at the top flight, while Lucas Miller (Wellington, New Zealand) was the three-set loser at #3.
Catawba concludes its season on Saturday as the Indians host Brevard at 1 pm at the Johnson Tennis Center.
