Women's Lacrosse Falls In Regular Season Finale
HICKORY, N.C. -- Lenoir-Rhyne claimed an 18-4 win over visiting Catawba in South Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Moretz Stadium. The Bears improve to 9-7 overall and 7-1 in the SAC, while the Lady Indians fall to 8-8 and 5-3.
Lenoir-Rhyne scored the first nine goals, including two early from Lauren Donovan that made it 3-0 after eight minutes. Nicolette Salay (Columbus, N.J./Burlington Regional HS) would get the lone goal for the Lady Indians in the first half at the 3:07 mark. The Bears went on to lead 11-1 at the break.
Salay added a second goal for Catawba in the second half. Caroline Beggs (St. Johns, Fla./Bartram Trail HS) and Kirsten Kruse (Sagamore Beach, Mass./Williston Northampton Prep) also had goals for the Lady Indians.
Donovan led Lenoir-Rhyne with four goals. Aubriana Bendetto and Claire Wach each scored three times. Laura Parker had two goals and three assists.
The Bears held a 41-20 edge in shots. Bethany Davis (Salisbury, Md./Parkside HS) posted seven saves. Ashley Gruning made 10 saves for Lenoir-Rhyne.
The Lady Indians will host Wingate in a first round game of the SAC Tournament on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
