Kershaw 12th, Women's Golf Sixth Heading Into Final Day at SAC Championships
SEVEIRVILLE, Tenn. -- Catawba improved 16 shots on day two at the South Atlantic Conference Women's Golf Championships with a 317 on Monday at the 5,859-yard, par-72 River Course of the Sevierville Golf Club. The Catawba Indians still sit in sixth after two of three rounds.
Wingate took over the lead from Newberry with a 306 on Monday, the lowest round of the two days thus far. Newberry matched Catawba with a 317 total. Wingate is at 622 after two rounds with the Wolves at 627. Queens and Carson-Newman are third on scores of 630. The Lady Indians (650) are nine shots behind fifth-place Lincoln Memorial and have a 16-stroke margin ahead of Coker.
Alexis Kershaw (Winston-Salem, N.C./Ledford HS) shot 77 on Monday and stands in 12th with a two-round total of 158. Anthea Gnielinski (Bremen, Germany/SZ Bordestrasse) is in 16th after a 79 left her on a total of 161.
Both Kershaw and Gnielinski had a pair of birdies on the opening nine to turn at +2. Kershaw birdied the par-4 sixth and the par-4 eighth. Gnielinski had birdies on the par-5 third and par-3 fourth.
Grace Glaze, of Queens, is the overall leader as she followed her opening 74 with a 76. She leads first round co-leader Karly Mims, of Newberry, by three shots. Newberry's Marianna Monaco is in third at 154, four shots back, with four golfers at 155.
Catawba led the field on day two on the par-3s with a 3.2 scoring average. Carson-Newman followed at 3.3. After a day a very few pars on Sunday, the Lady Indians were third as a team on Monday with 50 pars, one behind Carson-Newman and three behind leader Wingate.
The tournament will finish up play on Tuesday with a final 18 holes.
