Women's Lacrosse Hosts Wingate Tuesday in SAC Tournament
SALISBURY, N.C. -- The Catawba women's lacrosse team will host Wingate on Tuesday at 6 pm in the first round of the South Atlantic Conference Tournament at Shuford Stadium. Ticket prices are $6 for adults, $3 for children under 13 and $2 for college students with ID.
Catawba (8-8) won the early meeting between the teams 17-10, outscoring the Bulldogs 11-4 in the second half. Alyssa Corace scored four goals and had two assists in the win, while Caroline Beggs also tallied four goals. Erin Murphy led Wingate (9-7) with four goals.
Beggs set a school record this season in goals and has 45 entering the tournament. The freshman has added 17 assists. Corace follows with 39 goals and Shortt has tallied 29. The Lady Indians have six players with at least 20 goals.
Kourtney Jones leads the team with 68 draw controls and shares the team lead with Hannah Scott with 25 caused turnovers. Scott has earned 54 draw controls. Both have double digits in goals with Jones scoring 15 and Scott 14. Bethany Davis has stopped 146 shots and has a 15.1 goals against average and a .435 save percentage.
Murphy leads Wingate in goals after 16 games with 35 on the season. Brittany Andrews and Jaclyn Chiesa each have scored 30 goals. Morgan Insel leads the defense with 15 caused turnovers. Nicole Hinkle has posted a 13.5 goals against average with 128 saves and a .420 save percentage.
The winner of Tuesday's game will advance to Friday's 4 pm semifinal against Queens in Charlotte, N.C.
