Taylor Makes Best of Restart at SAC Championships, Firing a 76 Monday

MARVIN, N.C. -- The Catawba men’s golf team is in 10th after one round of the SAC Championships following a 319 round on Monday at the 6,904-yard, par-72 Firethorne Country Club.  Tusculum takes a six shot lead into Tuesday's final round after posting a 295 team total.

Wingate (301) and Queens (302) are the nearest pursuers of the Pioneers.  Tusculum's Nick Forsberg holds the individual lead after one round with a two-under-par 70.  He was the only player to break par with a pair of Wingate golfers, Benedict Gebhardt and Phillip Konnikov, two shots back after rounds of 72.

There may have been no player in the field that took more advantage of Sunday's wash out than Catawba's  Jordan Taylor (Troy, N.C./W. Montgomery HS/Campbell).  The sophomore was 14 over after six holes on Sunday when rains forced a reboot and a shortening of the tournament to 36 holes.  Taylor came back with the best score for the Indians on Monday with a 76.  He closed with birdies on the par-3 eighth and par-5 ninth for a one-under-par final nine.

Matt Hardman (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area HS) had a 78 for Catawba.  He also birdied #9 to close his round.  Taylor is fifth in the field with three birdies.  Hardman and Brian Donaldson (Clinton, N.C./Clinton HS) are among a group with a pair of birdies.
