Tysinger Voted MVP of SAC Softball Tournament


ROCK HILL, S.C. ( -- Catawba’s Carley Tysinger was tabbed the 2015 South Atlantic Conference Softball Championship MVP as voted by the tournament participant head coaches.  It was announced by the conference on Tuesday.  The panel also selected an 11 member All-Tournament Team which included Catawba teammates Gina Gerone, Natalie Naturile and Katherine Shumaker. 

Tysinger, a junior from Lexington, N.C., went 4-0 in the South Atlantic Conference Softball Championship with 45 strikeouts in 26 innings pitched.  She struck out a tournament-best nine hitters looking, while only giving up six earned runs.  Tysinger becomes the first-ever Catawba Indian to earn the honor as she led Catawba to the school’s first-ever South Atlantic Conference Tournament Title.

Gerone had a huge game in the final with a school-record three home runs and five RBI.  She finished with a team-high .583 average with seven hits, six RBI and six runs scored over the four games.  Naturile was 5-for-10 (.500) with a double, triple and home run and a pair of RBI.  Shumaker had a .444 average with four hits and three walks.
