Tennis Adds Two to Incoming Class
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba Tennis Coach, Jeff Childress, has announced two student-athletes that will be joining the tennis program this upcoming season. Both men’s and women’s tennis has one recruit coming on in the fall of 2015.
Childress said, “I am very happy to have Lucca joining our men’s tennis and Erisa joining our women’s tennis team at Catawba. Both are very strong players with a lot of international tournament experience.”
The women’s recruit, Erisa Onchi (Tokyo, Japan/IMG School), is ranked top 15 in Tokyo. She played at the IMG School in Florida. Onchi plans on majoring in sports management at Catawba.
The men’s recruit, Luca Picci (Harare, Zimbabwe), has been representing the Zimbabwe national team since 2009. He has also made top tennis team all four years of his high school career. In 2013, he won the Hellenic Academy Tennis Championship and in 2014 he won the New Winners Tennis Tournament and the Arenal Wimbledon Harare Junior Open.
“Both have some very impressive tournament results and will continue to train and play until they arrive at Catawba in August. I think both will fit in very well with each team and both players should make us a stronger team next year.” Childress added.
