Women's Tennis takes 5-4 win over Carson-Newman

SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba College defeated visiting Carson-Newman 5-4 in South Atlantic Conference women’s tennis action on Friday afternoon at Johnson Tennis Center. Carson-Newman won two of the three doubles, but Catawba rallied back, taking four singles wins. The Lady Indians improve to 6-12 overall and 2-3 in the SAC, while Carson-Newman falls to 7-8 and 1-3. The team of Danielle Wilson and Natalie Tatum used a late break of Catawba’s serve to record a 9-7 win at #1 doubles to take the 2-1 edge. Catawba picked up wins from Shelley Gordon, Cleary Packard and Taryn Gordon to pull ahead 4-3. The Lady Eagles had earned a win at #1 singles, then picked up a point at #6 singels to even the match. The deciding match came at #4 singles where Catawba’s Rachel Morgan earned the point over Millicent Dunn. After winning the opening set, Morgan fell down 4-1 in the second set before reeling off four straight games for a 5-4 lead. Each player would hold serve before Morgan broke Dunn again for the win.
