Promotions Announced Within Catawba Athletic Department
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba College Director of Athletics Larry Leckonby has announced several changes in the athletic staff. Craig Turnbull has been promoted to Associate Athletics Director, Jim Lewis to Senior Assistant Athletic Director and David McDowell to Assistant Athletic Director. Basketball assistant coaches Brian Graves, for the men, and Terrence Baxter, for the women, have been promoted to Associate Head Coaches. Ricky Joines joins the athletic department as the Coordinator of Athletic Facilities.
Turnbull has served as the Senior Assistant Athletic Director and is also Catawba’s Director of Compliance. He also assists with game operations and has coordinated the department’s Silent Action. Turnbull came to Catawba in 1998 and was the men’s soccer coach for 11 seasons.
Lewis has served as Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communications since 2009. Has was named the school’s Sports Information Director in 1996. Lewis graduated from Catawba in 1989, working within the sports information office while in school and as an assistant until being named the SID.
McDowell is an assistant in sports information, joining the staff full time in 2012. He also coordinates the Catawba athletic video webcasts and assists in marketing and promotions. McDowell is a 2009 Catawba graduate, who worked in the athletic office while a student. He had spent a year as an intern in sports information in 2010.
Graves joined the men’s basketball staff as an assistant in 2012. As a player at Catawba, Graves was a three-time All-South Atlantic Conference performer and was named All-Southeast Region as a senior. He helped the Indians to a pair of conference titles and three NCAA II Tournament berths.
Baxter came to Catawba as an assistant with the women’s basketball program in 2013. He had previously served on the staffs at Pfeiffer, Brevard and Queens. Baxter was a two-time all-conference and all-region selection as a player at Pfeiffer. He helped the Falcons to a pair of league titles and a spot in the NCAA II Sweet Sixteen.
Joines, who graduated from Catawba in 2002, had been an assistant basketball coach at Catawba from 1998 until 2013. For the past two years, he has worked with the Catawba College Facilities Department. Joines will assist in game operations and the daily operations of the athletic facilities.
