Rew Finishes #2 in NCAA II in Face-Off Win Percentage
The Catawba men’s lacrosse team finished third in face-off winning percentage among the 58 teams ranked in the NCAA II final statistics for 2015. The Catawba Indians won 66.3% (238-of-359) of its attempts on the season, setting a new school record. Limestone led the nation, winning 71.6% on the year.
Both of the regular Catawba face-off men, Daniel Rew and Conner Eakes, ranked among the top 10 individually. Rew, a senior, stood second in NCAA II at 69.2% (137-of-198). Eakes, who was a sophomore last season, posted a 64.9% (100-of-154) winning percentage and was seventh. Limestone’s Kevin Reisman led the nation at 74.8%.
Rew ranked ninth in the nation in ground balls per game, scooping up 6.73 a contest. That total ranked second all-time at Catawba and his 101 total was also second best in school history. Eakes was 47th nationally at 4.2 a contest.
Junior Connor Kennedy ranked 69th in total scoring at 2.87 points per game. He was 73rd in assists per game (1.0) and 74th in goals per game (1.87). Sophomore goalie Ryan Applegate ranked 30th in the nation in saves per games at 10.07.
The Indians also ranked top 10 as a team in man-up offense. Catawba set a school record by scoring on 42.9% (21-of-49) of its extra-man opportunities. Queens led the nation in that category at 58.7%. Catawba was 22nd by grabbing 31.6 ground balls a game.
