Knapp's five goals help Lacrosse equal school-record win total

BANNER ELK, NC -- Catawba College got five goals from senior Jeremy Knapp (Hagerstown, MD) and rallied from a 4-1 deficit to defeat host Lees-McRae 9-4 in Deep South Conference lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon. The Indians improve to 6-5 overall and 4-1 in DSC action, securing a first round home tournament game on Tuesday, April 22. It also ties the school record for wins in a season. Lees-McRae falls to 2-8 and 1-4. Josh Maphis (Ocean City, MD) scored the game’s opening goal at the 6:35 mark of the first quarter, but the Bobcats answered with four straight tallies to lead 4-1 after the initial quarter. Catawba goalie Frank Fish (Damascus, MD) would keep Lees-McRae off the board the remaining 45 minutes as the Indians rallied for the win. Knapp scored two second quarter goals to pull the Tribe within 4-3 by the half. A goal by Jason Windett (Magnolia, DE) with 11:20 left in the third quarter tied the contest and Knapp gave Catawba the lead with a goal at the 5:15 mark. Catawba scored four times in the final quarter, two more by Knapp, for the final margin. Knapp was the only player to record a multi-goal game, while Maphis and Chris Khatri (Fairfax Station, VA) added a goal and an assist. Fish recorded 15 saves for Catawba.
