Brown Earns First Career Win With 2-0 Victory Over USC Aiken
SALISBURY, NC -- The Catawba College women’s soccer team tallied their first win of the year with a 2-0 shutout of USC Aiken Sunday evening at Frock Field. The win marked Catawba head coach Nick Brown’s first career win as the Lady Indians improve to 1-1 on the season. The Pacers fall to 0-2 with the loss.
After a scoreless first half, Becky Frost got the Lady Indians on the board in the 67th minute with a goal in front of the Pacer net. Teammates Hannah Cruse and Kiersten Peck worked the ball down the right side for the Indians before setting up a Peck cross to the box. Frost was able to corral the ball enough to turn around and shoot.
In the final minutes of the game, the Indians countered a Pacer attack that resulted in Frost charging to the right side corner of the field. At the endline, Frost lined in a cross that was met by an outstretched Shay Passantino diving in front of the goalie.
Fouls played a large role in the pace of the game as 35 combine fouls were called, including two second half yellow cards. Despite the stoppages, the Lady Pacers managed to pull off 19 shots while Catawba took 13 of their own.
Aiken keeper, Karin Cadwalader, recorded three saves in the loss. Catawba split time in net between starter Angelica Pawlowski and Bethany Davis. Pawlowski recorded three saves in the first half shutout. Davis took over goal the entire second half and stopped two shots of her own. Defender Erin Feldman made the biggest save of the night, stopping a potential goal after a Davis save rebounded to the foot of a Pacer player.
The Lady Indians will return to action on Friday as they host Flagler at 7:00 p.m. at Frock Field.
