Lady Indians Fall to Flagler 2-1 in Overtime
SALISBURY, NC -- The Catawba College women's soccer team fell 2-1 in the second overtime period to Flagler University Friday night at Frock Field. Katie Kaim recorded the game winner with 2:14 left on the clock before the game would ruled a tie. With the loss, Catawba falls to 1-2 on the early season while Flagler improves to 1-0-1.
Catawba freshman, Emily Davis, scored the games first goal and the first of her career in the 35th minute of play. The ball was struck hard to beat Flagler's keeper Racheal Cecil.
Alison Bondy would retaliate in the 66th minute for the Flagler Saints to tie the game a one apiece. Bondy's goal came off a cross that was saved twice by keeper Bethany Davis before getting the third shot in the net.
Kaim's game winner was controversial after the referee chose to not to call a possible foul on the play.
Flagler led all game in shot attempts with 24 taken on the night to Catawba's seven. Flagler were also awarded more corner kicks on the night with nine to Catawba's one.
Cecil recorded two saves for the Saints. Catawba split time keepers, starting Angelica Pawlowski in the first half. Pawlowski recorded one save in the half. Bethany Davis took over in the second half and instant was put to work, tallying 11 saves in the second half and three more in overtime. With 14 saves on the night Davis tied a career high.
Catawba will travel to Newberry on Wednesday to begin South Atlantic Conference play. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
