Emily Davis Scores Lone Goal in 1-0 Win Over Newberry
NEWBERRY, SC -- The Catawba College women's soccer team recorded a 1-0 victory over the Newberry College Wolves on a late goal Wednesday afternoon at the Smith Road Complex. Catawba freshman Emily Davis scored the goal in the 85th minute to lift Catawba to 2-2 on the season and 1-0 in the South Atlantic Conference. With the loss, Newberry falls to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the SAC.
Davis' goal was a result of a free kick. Catawba defender Erin Feldman booted the kick into Becky Frost who made an attempt on goal was denied by Newberry keeper Alexis Carillo. Davis was able to corral the free ball and put in the game winner. Carillo's save one of five on the night.
Catawba keeper, Angelica Pawlowski recorded 12 saves on the day and on the way to recording her first shutout of the season.
Catawba will take the field on Saturday as they return home to Frock Field for a matchup with Mars Hill. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
