Volleyball Falls in Three to Carson-Newman

SALISBURY, N.C -- Visiting Carson-Newman stayed unbeaten in conference play, posting a three-set win over Catawba in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Friday night at Goodman Gym.  The Lady Eagle picked up the 25-19, 25-17, 25-16 victory to improve to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the SAC.  The Catawba Indians fall to 4-6 and 1-2.

Sara Fairley led the victors with 16 kills and added 11 digs.  Allie Foster added eight kills with Maddie Borch picking up seven.  Taylor Lowe registered 18 digs and Anna Patton handed out 35 assists and served three aces.

Erin Morant (Bealeton, Va./Liberty HS) had a team-high eight kills for Catawba with a pair of blocks.  Audrey Hoffman (Dacula, Ga./Mill Creek HS) followed with five kills and two blocks.  Setter Kaytee Frabotta (Sterling Heights, Mich./Henry Ford II HS) provided 21 assists and recorded 15 digs.

Carson-Newman slowly pulled away over the last half of the first set.  The Lady Eagles led 15-14 before winning six of the next eight points for a 21-16 edge.  Foster and Natalie Harris had a pair blocks with Fairley killing off a pair of points in the run.  Borch would kill off the final point of the set.

It was a big run midway through the second half that led to a two-set lead for C-N.  The Lady Eagles went on an 11-4 run to stretch a one-point edge to 21-13.  Catawba got as close as six late in the set, but a kill from Borch and an ace from Kristina Hill closed out the set.

Carson-Newman got out to a 10-6 lead in set three.  Catawba was within 14-11 before the Lady Eagles ran off four consecutive points for an 18-11 advantage.  C-N would build its lead to 24-14 and ended the match on a Borch kill.

Catawba will host Lincoln Memorial on Saturday at 2 pm.
