Lake and Adams Lead Catawba in Chick-fil-A Invitational
SALISBURY, NC -- The Catawba College cross country teams each placed second at the Chick-fil-A Invitational hosted by Catawba Friday night at Salisbury Community Park. Louisburg's men and Wingate's women took top honors in the event. Wingate's Nepolian Patel and Ashley Hinderer each won thier respective races. Patel finished the 8k race in a time of 26:40 while Hinderer ran the 5k in 19:14.
In the men's race, Catawba was paced by two freshman, Drew Lake and Curtis Carmack. Lake finished sixth with a time of 27:37 with Carmack finishing 7th in 27:44. A second pair of Catawba runners finished together for 13th and 14th position. Sean McMahon took 13th with a time of 28:26 followed two seconds later by Matthew Jordan-Steele. Claiming 15th position was freshman Ian Buff with a time of 28:40. All other Catawba runners finished in a time of 34:10 or less, but did not count towards the team points.
On the women's side, SAC AstroTurf Player of the Week, Abbie Adams, finished first of the Catawba runners with a 5th place time of 20:03. Nikita Elminowski took 12th place with a time of 21:20. Erica Boles (21:55) took 14th, DeAnna Hedgepeth (22:38) claimed 17th, and Jordan Hunt (23:47) claimed 19th. Lexie Petty rounded out the Indian runners with a time of 25:11.
Catawba will face off against Wingate once again on Saturday (9/26) as Catawba competes in the Bulldog Stampede hosted by Wingate. The first race is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
