Men Place Top Ten at Wingate's Bulldog Stampede, Women 13th
WINGATE, NC -- The Catawba College men’s cross country team placed in the top ten of the Wingate Bulldog Stampede Saturday morning on the campus of Wingate University. The Catawba Lady Indians finished the day in 13th position while both races boasting 19 teams apiece. The Mount Olive men and Wingate women claimed overall wins.
Catawba’s Abbie Adams led the team with a 22nd place finish in a time of 24:09 in the women’s 6K race. Morgan Grubb followed six seconds behind in 28th position. Senior Erica Boles finished in 63rd (25:35), Nikita Elminowski took 73rd (25:45), and DeAnna Hedgepeth placed 111th in a time of 28:06. Jordan Hunt was the final Catawba runner with a time of 28:30 for 116th position.
The Catawba men produced a strong team finish led by the freshman duo of Curtis Carmack and Drew Lake. Carmack finished in 37th with a time of 27:43 while Lake was four seconds behind in 40th. Just over a second behind Lake was Graham Sledge with a 42nd place finish of 27:48. Junior transfer Sean McMahon recorded a 48th place finish in 27:59 and AJ Meadows rounded out the top five with a 56th place time of 28:12.
Catawba will return to action on Saturday as the teams travel to Greensboro for the Hagan Stone Invitational at 9:30 a.m.
