Lady Indians Shutout 2-0 to Brevard
MARS HILL, N.C. -- The Catawba College women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss to Brevard College in South Atlantic Conference action Sunday afternoon at Mars Hill's Belk Field. With the loss Catawba falls to 3-6 on the season and 2-3 in the SAC. Brevard improves to 3-4-1 overall and 2-3 in conference.
Brevard's first goal of the day came in the 37th minute with an Anita Maryskova corner kick into Kimiko Makanishi. The Tornado defender headed the ball in past Catawba keeper Angelica Pawlowski.
In the second half, Maryskova tallied a goal of her own after a long ball from Kathleen Gant gave her the advantage. The goal came in the 65th minute of play.
Catawba finished the day leading in shots with a 16-11 advantage. Jocelyn Springer, the Brevard goalie, stopped all five of Catawba's shots on goal. Pawlowski recorded four saves of her own in a little over 69 minutes of action. Freshman Sarah Smith replaced Pawlowski in the 70th minute and stopped her only shot.
Catawba returns home on Wednesday for South Atlantic matchup against Queens University. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
