Indians Record All-Time Runs at Royals XC Challenge
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Catawba College cross country teams each competed in the Royals Cross Country Challenge hosted by Queens University at McAlpine Creek Park. The Catawba women placed 18th of 37 teams while the Indians men finished 17th out of 39 teams running. The Lady Indians finished second of six South Atlantic Conference teams in the race while the men finished fourth out of eight SAC teams.
In the women's 5k race, Catawba was led by freshamn Abbie Adams for the fourth consecutive race of the year. The freshman set a career best time of 19:03 for 32nd position. The mark beat her previous best by a time of 51 seconds for third best all-time in school history. The next Catawba Lady Indian to finish was freshman Nikita Elminowski with a 122nd place time of 20:22. Morgan Grubb (20:27), Erica Boles (21:03), and DeAnna Hedgepeth (22:05) rounded out the Catawba top five.
On the men's side, Curtis Carmack led the Indians with an 88th place time of 26:31. The time ranks 11th all-time in Catawba history. Sean McMahon finished next in 95th with a time of 26:37 which place 13th in Catawba history. Drew Lake was the third Catawba finisher with a time of 27:02 for 123rd position. Nathan Hatley (27:33) and Ian Buff (28:00) rounded out the top five for the tribe.
Catawba will race next in the South Atlantic Conference championships on Saturday, October 24th. The first race is scheduled for 9:00 a.m.
