Catawba Falls to Carson-Newman 4-1
SALISBURY, N.C. -- The Catawba College women's soccer team fell 4-1 to Carson-Newman University in South Atlantic Conference action Saturday afternoon at Frock Field. The loss marked the sixth straight for the Lady Indians who stand at 3-8 overall and 2-5 in the conference. Carson-Newman improves to 9-2 on the season and 6-1 in the SAC.
The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles recorded three quick goals in the first half before Catawba's Alex Twombly converted on a penalty kick in the 42nd minute. The Lady Eagles had an opportunity to add a fourth goal with three seconds left to go in the half, but starting keeper Bethany Davis made a diving save to thwart the attempt. The save was just one of her eight saves in the game.
Carson-Newman added a fourth and final goal of the day in the 77th minute of play. Carson-Newman led the way in shots with a 22-11 advantage. Jessica Fraiture, the Carson-Newman goalie tallied three saves of own.
Catawba will return to action on Wednesday as the Lady Indians travel to Lees-McRae for non-conference action. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
