Indians Claim 8-1 Victory Over Lenoir-Rhyne

SALISBURY, NC -- The Catawba College teams each claimed victories over Lenoir-Rhyne University Thursday afternoon at the Johnson Tennis Center. With a 6-3 victory, the Catawba women improve to 6-1 on the season and 1-0 in the South Atlantic Conference. The Catawba men advance to 3-3 overall and 1-0 in the SAC.

In women's action, Catawba jumped out to a 2-1 advantage with a pair of 8-2 wins in doubles action. Lenoir-Rhyne would even the match a two apiece with a victory at #1 singles. Catawba's Erisa Onchi claimed a third set win before the Lady Bears tied the match again at #3 singles. Kristen Rocko and Lauren Sledd each claimed a pair of 6-2 victories to seal the win for the Indians. The win for Sledd marked her 13th straight in singles play going back to the 2014-15 season. Rachel Rudisill iced the win for Catawba with two 6-0 decisions at the #6 position.

On the men's side, the Indians swept doubles action to jump out to a 3-0 lead. In singles, Jack Mordey and Lucas Miller claimed victories at #1 and #2 singles to secure the win for the tribe. The lone Lenoir-Rhyne point of the match came at the third flight with a victory over Catawba freshman Lucas Picca. The Indians would sweep the remaining three matches.

The match concluded the fall season for the Indians who will look to use the momentum for conference play in the spring.
