Frabotta Named AstroTurf SAC Volleyball Specialist of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) -- Catawba’s Kaytee Frabotta was chosen as the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Specialist of the Week, while Carson-Newman outside hitter Sara Fairley was selected as the AstroTurf SAC Volleyball Player of the Week for matches played Oct. 12-18. It was announced by the league on Tuesday.
Frabotta, a senior from Sterling Heights, Mich., helped Catawba to a pair of SAC victories as the Indians swept both Newberry and Anderson. Frabotta averaged a dozen assists per set, finishing with 38 in the match-up against Newberry, and 34 versus Anderson. The Indians hit 25.8 percent on the week and 32 percent in four of the six sets. The senior totaled 72 assists with 16 digs and also contributed two aces and three blocks on the week. The award is her first Specialist of the Week plaudit this season.
Fairley, a senior from Charlotte, N.C., led the Eagles to a pair of sweeps last week as they went 2-0 in League play. For the seventh time this year, Fairley recorded 16 or more kills as she notched 17 against Lenoir-Rhyne and 16 against Brevard. In the win over the Bears on Oct. 16, the senior averaged 5.67 kills per set on a .333 hit percentage and posted six digs and an assist. The next day at Brevard, Fairley posted 5.33 kills per set to go along with a .314 average at the net. She also chipped in six digs, one block and an assist in the win. The honor marks her second Player of the Week nod this season.
