Wingate Tallies Two in Shutout Over Catawba
WINGATE, N.C. -- The Wingate University Lady Bulldogs claimed a 2-0 shutout victory over the Catawba College Lady Indians Wednesday evening in South Atlantic Conference action at the Wingate Soccer Complex. With the loss the Catawba Lady Indians fall to 3-11 on the season and 2-7 in the conference. Wingate improves to 12-1 overall and 8-1 in conference.
Wingate's Kaitlyn Brunworth scored the first goal of the match on a penalty kick in the 60th minute. The goal beat Catawba goalie Bethany Davis for her fourth of the year.
In the 83rd minute the Lady Bulldogs sealed the victory with an insurance goal from Brooke Howell. Macy Franklin was credited with the assist after deflecting the ball in front of the net.
Wingate forced 23 shots on the night while Catawba took seven of their own. Catawba started the game with Angelica Pawlowski in net. Pawlowski stopped all five shots she faced during her 45 minutes in goal. Davis saved three attempts of her own during her second half of play.
Catawba will return home on Saturday for a homecoming double header versus Tusculum. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
