Erhart and Brus Swim to Wins on Opening Day of Quad Meet
HICKORY, N.C. -- Catawba picked up individual wins in the women's 500 free and the men's 200 back on the opening night of a two-day, two-town Quad Meet featuring Catawba, Wingate, Limestone and Lenoir-Rhyne. Friday's action took place at the Shuford Physical Education Center Pool on the campus of Lenoir-Rhyne University. The event moves to Limestone's Timkin Center on Saturday.
Marcia-Mariel Erhart claimed the win for Catawba in the 500 free as she posted a time of 5:14.26. Dominik Brus claimed a victory in the 200 back, touching in a time of 1:53.63. Brus' time ranks 13th on the all-time list.
Erhart came back to swim the second fastest time in school history in the 200 fly. Her time of 2:14.01 was a little over a second off the school mark and placed her fourth in the event. Jess Daniel would finish seventh (2:23.87) in the 200 fly and Palmer Benson was eighth (2:26.08). Benson was fourth in the 100 breast (1:12.06).
Nadine Brockmann swam to a fourth-place finish in the 100 free (55.25) and was fifth in the 500 free (5:20.81). Amy Cujas placed sixth in the 200 IM (2:17.70) and Paula Garcia was ninth in the 200 back (2:15.95).
Ali Hegazi had a pair of top five swims for the Catawba men. He was second in the 500 free (4:42.74) and fifth in the 100 free (48.65). Jevgenij Gamper placed third in the 100 breast (59.08) and Rafal Baran was fourth in the 200 fly (1:59.67). Brus finished sixth in the 200 IM (2:02.24).
