Adams Named to All-Region Team at XC Regionals
WINGATE, NC -- The Catawba College cross country teams competed in the 2015 NCAA DII South East Region Championship Saturday morning hosted by Wingate University. Catawba freshman, Abbie Adams, earned all-region honors with her 18th place time of 24:05 in the women's 6K event. The Catawba women finished the day in 16th position while the men landed in 17th. Twenty-five teams were scored in the women's race with 22 teams qualifying for scoring in the men's 8K. Montevalllo claimed the team win in the women's race and Mount Olive took the win for the men.
Adams' placing makes her the third Catawba Lady Indian to earn all-region honors. The last Catawba runner to do so was Olivia Jacobs in 2008.
In the women's race, Queens' Catie Byrd took the overall win with a time of 22:25. As a team, Adams was aided by Morgan Grubb with a 68th place time of 25:53. Nikita Elminowski placed next with a 102nd place time of 26:51. Erica Boles and DeAnna Hedgepeth rounded out the Catawba scorers with 107th and 123rd place finishes, respectively. Boles finished in a time of 26:58 and Hedgepeth recorded a time of 27:37.
On the men's side, Alex Griggs of Mars Hill took the overall wini with a time of 32:33. Catawba was led by Matt Jordan-Steele who placed 68th with a time of 36:33. Nathan Hatley finished 80th (37:03) with Sean McMahon shortly behind in 37:07 (82nd). Freshman Curtis Carmack recorded an 88th place time of 37:20. The Indians were rounded out by Graham Sledge with a time of 37:40 for 99th place.
The race concludes the 2015 season for Catawba. The Indians graduate five seniors this year including Jordan-Steele, Hatley, and Jonathon Boles on the men's side. Erica Boles and Hedgepeth are graduating from the women's side.
