Men's Golf places fifth at SAC Championships

LAURENS, SC -- Catawba finished fifth, while Presbyterian won their third consecutive Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Men's Golf Championship by shooting 290 in Saturday's final round to finish with a score of 285-296-290-871. The tournament was held at the 6,464-yard, par-72 Lakeside Country Club. The Blue Hose were tied for second place with Tusculum College at 581 after the first two rounds on Friday. Presbyterian rallied past Carson-Newman, the leader after the first two rounds, sparked by Thomas Cameron's two-under par round of 70. Presbyterian's Gavin Gillespie was the Most Valuable Player for the tournament for the second consecutive year. The junior fired a 209, with an opening round 64, to claim the top finish, breaking his own SAC record for top individual score for all rounds. Other members of the All-SAC tournament team included Shawn Walsh and Brian Hughes, from Mars Hill, Brent Dyson, of Tusculum, and Carson-Newman's Matthew Cram-Smith. Catawba was led by senior Andrew Wymer, who finished seventh. He posted a 217 total which included an opening round 70 and a final round 72. Freshman Mike Grisnik was 20th overall on 226.
