ANDERSON, S.C. -- Catawba was eliminated from the South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Tournament with a three-set loss to Lincoln Memorial on Friday afternoon at Anderson’s Abney Center.  The fourth-seeded Lady Railsplitters won the match by the scores of 25-21, 25-22, 25-14 to improve to 16-13 and advance to Saturday’s semifinals against top-seeded Wingate.  The Catawba Indians, seeded fifth, end its season at 15-15.

Bri Howard (Graham, N.C./S. Alamance), Alex Hopper (Madison, N.C./McMichael) and Erin Morant (Bealeton, Va./Liberty) each had seven kills to lead Catawba.  Howard and Morant added two blocks.  Setter Rachel Stanford (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) delivered 26 assists with 15 digs.

Liz Brock and Brooke Fleeman each posted 13 kills for Lincoln Memorial.  Jazzy Oates had six kills and five blocks.  Setter Abby Cash handed out 36 assists with 13 digs.

The Lady Railsplitters went up 6-3 early in set one, but Catawba used a three-point run on kills from Howard, Hopper and Rachel Gallup (Fredericksburg, Va./Courtland HS) to lead 10-9.  With the set tied at 14-all, LMU followed a Catawba service error with an ace from Cash and an attack error to lead 17-14.

The Lady Railsplitters kept Catawba from scoring consecutive points to get back into the set until building a 24-19 lead.  Morant killed off two points for Catawba, but an attack error ended the set.

Two aces from Erica Whitaker and two kills and a block from Fleeman in an 8-0 run had LMU up 9-3 in the second set.  Catawba responded with seven straight points and took a 10-9 lead after a solo block from Morant.  The set stayed tight until the end.  A kill from Morant tied the set at 22-all.  LMU took the set as it scored the final three points on kills from Kiera Holland, Brock and Oates.

LMU pulled away midway through the final set to sweep the match.  An 11-4 run put Lincoln Memorial up 15-8 and it was 18-10 after a kill from Brock.  One more kill from Brock pushed the margin to 24-14 and the Lady Railsplitters won the match after a Catawba attack error.
