Brus Just Misses 200 Back Record at Wingate Fall Frenzy
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Catawba's swim teams finished up the Wingate Fall Frenzy on Sunday at the Rock Hill YMCA. Dominik Brus highlighted the final day as posted the best finish of the weekend, placing third in the 200 back.
Brus' time in the 200 back of 1:49.52 was the second fastest in school history and just 16/100ths off his own school mark. Ethan Davis swam to a 12th place finish in the 200 back (2:07.99).
Aly Hegazi posted a pair of top 10 finishes on Sunday. The freshman was eighth in the 1650 and 10th in the 100 free. His time of 16:44.76 in the 1650 free was seventh best all-time. Dylan Twiddy was ninth in the 1650 free (18:48.75) and Robert McCue 14th in the 100 free (51.48).
Also posting top ten finishes for the men were Rafal Baran and Michael King in the 200 fly. Baran posted the seventh best school swim with a time of 1:54.07 and was ninth to win the B Final. King went 10th with the ninth best time in history at 1:55.08. Jevgenij Gamper was 13th in the 200 breast (1:23.04).
The 400 free relay team closed the meet with a fifth-place finish. The time of 3:07.92 from the team of Gamper, King, Brus and Hegazi was the 10th best all-time.
The women posted several top ten finishes, including Marcia-Mariel Erhart's ninth-place in the 1650 free (17:44.77). The freshman was 14th in he 200 fly with a time of 2:14.04. Both swims marked the fourth fastest in school history.
Nadine Brockmann won the B Final of the 100 free in a time of 53.90 with Amy Cujas going 10th (54.54). Palmer Benson clocked in a 10th-place finish in the 200 breast (2:29.81) and Paula Garcia went 13th in the 200 back (2:14.85).
The teams will take a holiday break and are scheduled to return to action on Jan. 15 at Wingate.
