Men's Basketball Can't Overcome Quick Start From #8 Queens
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Queens, ranked eighth in the latest NABC Division II Coaches' Poll, stayed unbeaten with a 94-79 win over visiting Catawba in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action on Wednesday night at the Levine Center. The Royals up their record to 12-0 overall and 6-0 in the SAC. The Catawba Indians fall to 6-7 and 4-3.
The Royals stormed out to an 18-2 lead and were never threatened. Queens hit on six of its first seven three-point attempts and shot 60% (20-of-33) in the opening half in posting a 54-27 advantage. Queens built its lead to 41 midway through the second half before a late Catawba run brought the Indians within 15 in the final minute.
Jerrin Morrison (Charlotte, N.C./E. Mecklenburg) returned after missing two games with an injury to lead Catawba with 17 points. Jameel Taylor (Anderson, S.C./Hanna) just missed a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds. Jordan Barber (Matthews, N.C./Weddington) collected 11 points, while Rakeen Brown (Hampton, Va./Bethel/Delaware St.) chipped in with 10 points.
Rob Lewis led Queens with 20 points, hitting on four three-pointers. Daniel Camps followed with 18 points and grabbed 15 boards. Sean Morgan also reached double digits with 16 points.
Catawba heads to Brevard on Saturday for a 4 pm tip-off. The game will be televised by WMYA TV in Greenville, S.C.
