Several Indians honored by Deep South in Lacrosse

Three Catawba lacrosse players and coach Peter Bourque have been honored by the Deep South Conference for their efforts during the 2003 season. Earning first team all-league honors were Josh Maphis (Ocean City, MD) and David Donohue (Davidsonville, MD) were named first team All-DSC, while John Godfrey (Ipswich, MA) was named to the second team. Bourque received DSC Coach of the Year honors for the second time as the Indians set a school record with seven wins and were third in the league with a 4-2 mark. Maphis, a senior midfielder, led the team in goals, assists and points. His 35 goals were fourth best season, while his 22 assists tied the record. His 57 total points established a new mark. In just two seasons, Maphis tallied 59 goals and totaled 94 points. Donohue, a sophomore defender, registered a school-record 53 take-aways in 2003 and also led the team with 89 ground balls. Offensively, he added five goals and three assists. Godfrey, a junior midfielder, was the squad’s top face-off man, winning 129 of 184 opportunities for just over 70%. He added 75 ground balls and had five goals and a pair of assists. Donohue, along with senior attack Chris Khatri (Fairfax Station, VA), was named to the Deep South All-Tournament team. Donohue had a pair of assists and added 12 ground balls and seven takeaways in the Tribe’s two games.
