Tysinger Named AstroTurf SAC Softball Pitcher of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) -- Catawba’s Carley Tysinger was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week, while Lenoir-Rhyne’s Madison Carter was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Softball Player of the Week for games played Feb. 1-7. The conference announced the awards on Tuesday.
Tysinger, a senior from Lexington, N.C., struck out 23 hitters in 12 innings of work to lead the Catawba Indians to a pair of wins last week. She got her week started with 10 strikeouts in four shutout innings in a win over Lincoln Memorial on Feb. 6. Tysinger followed that effort with 13 strikeouts in a complete game win over Armstrong State later that day and belted a game-winning grand slam in the eighth inning. She surrendered no walks in her 12 innings-pitched and allowed just one earned run in her outings. The honor marks her first Pitcher of the Week plaudit this season.
Carter, a sophomore from Bessemer City, N.C., posted a .769 average at the plate to go along with 10 hits and a .923 slugging percentage to lead the Bears to a 4-0 record last week. She posted multiple hits in each game she played in and notched three hits in a pair of contests. Her biggest game of the week came against Bluefield State on Feb. 7 as she notched three hits, two doubles, two RBI and one run scored. Carter also posted an on-base percentage of .786 in the four-game span. The award is her first Player of the Week nod this season.
