Erhart Swims to 1000 Free Record on Opening Night of BMC Championships
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Catawba freshman Marcia-Mariel Erhart set a new school mark in the 1000 free on Wednesday, while the women's 200 medley relay squad also set a new standard on the opening night of the 2016 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships being held through Saturday at the Rock Hill YMCA. After six events, the Catawba men stand sixth and the women are 11th.
Erhart smashed the existing 1000 free record by nearly six seconds. She swam a time of 10:29:53 and finished ninth to earn 20 team points. The 200 medley relay team consisting of Paula Garcia, Cassie Shear, Nadine Brockmann and Amy Cujas went eighth in a time of 1:50.19.
On the men's side, freshman Aly Hegazi posted the third fasted 1000 free in school history with a swim of 9:45.13. He picked up 44 points with the sixth-place swim. The 200 medley relay team (1:34.76) of Dominik Brus, Jevgenij Gamper, Michael King and Arnold Blohme was eighth and the 800 free relay team (7:11.84) of Hegazi, Rafal Baran, Robert McCue and King placed ninth.
