Duncan resigns as Women's Basketball coachCatawba College women's basketball coach, John Duncan, has resigned his post after seven seasons at the helm of the Lady Indian program. It was announced on Friday by Dennis Davidson, director of athletics. John Duncan has taken the women's basketball program to a higher level during his seven years at Catawba, said Davidson. We regret that Coach Duncan has decided to move on to new challenges, but we wish him well in all his future endeavors. Duncan leaves as the all-time winningest coach in school history, posting a 150-50 mark over his seven years at Catawba. During his tenure, he guided the Lady Indians to a pair of South Atlantic Conference Championships and two berths in the NCAA II Tournament. The 2000-01 squad won a school record 25 games. This past season, Catawba was 24-7, won the South Atlantic Conference title and hosted the NCAA II South Atlantic Regional Tournament. Under Coach Duncan, Catawba women's basketball has been a perennial conference championship contender, added Davidson. I will do my best to bring someone in that will at the least, maintain that excellence, but hopefully, will surpass the success of recent years. Duncan came to Catawba from Midway College in Midway, Kentucky. In four years at the helm of the women's program Duncan compiled a 71-59 record, 60-43 during the last three years. Duncan graduated in 1987 from Mary Baldwin College with a bachelor of arts degree in history education. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a 3.89 grade point average. He earned a masters of education degree in 1991 from the University of Southern Mississippi with a 4.0 GPA. After graduating from Mary Baldwin, Duncan was head boys and girls coach at Turner Ashby High School in Bridgewater, VA. In 1989, Duncan became men's assistant coach and head junior varsity coach at Eastern Mennonite College in Harrisonburg, VA. He became associate head women's coach at Eastern Mennonite in 1991, before taking over at Midway College. #####
