Women's Lacrosse Cruises to Win at Chowan
MURFREESBORO, N.C. -- Catawba cruised to a 20-3 win over host Chowan in women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Hawks Field. The Catawba Indians improve to 2-0, while Chowan falls to 0-3.
Megan Shortt (Kernersville, N.C./E. Forsyth) scored four goals and handed out four assists to pace Catawba's offense. Meredith Jones (Barnesville, Md./St. Johns Catholic) delivered six points with a pair of goals and four assists, while Kirstyn Kruse (Sagamore Beach, Mass./Williston Northampton Prep). Nicolette Salay (Columbus, N.J./N. Burlington Regional), Erin Green (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) and Crista Clayton (Jacksonville Beach, Fla./Fletcher) all had two goals.
Mackenzie Reid had two of the three Hawk goals and assisted on the other. Adriea Herndon scored the that goal. Haley Haggard racked up nine saves in goal for Chowan.
Reid scored the game's first goal, but Catawba reeled off the next seven to take control. Shortt had three of those seven goals, while Jones and Kruse each had two. Salay collected her two goals before the break to send the Lady Indians to the half with a 10-2 edge.
Catawba held a 35-11 edge in shots and won 19 of the 23 draw controls. Hannah Scott (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne's Co.) won five of the draw controls and added a goal and an assist. Bethany Davis (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) made six saves during her first half action. Madison Anselmo (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) did not record a save during the second half.
Catawba returns to action on Wednesday, hosting Queens at 4 pm.
