Women's Lacrosse Topped By Ninth-Ranked West Chester
SALISBURY, N.C. -- West Chester, ranked ninth in NCAA II, powered past host Catawba 24-6 in women's lacrosse action on Friday afternoon at Shuford Stadium. The Golden Rams improve to 4-0, while the Catawba Indians fall to 2-3.
Catawba led 1-0 after an early goal by Nicolette Salay (Columbus, N.J./N. Burlington Regional) four minutes into the contest. That would be the lone lead for the Lady Indians as West Chester reeled off the next nine goals. Ashley Pyle had three of the goals, while Dina Cifelli assisted on four.
Meredith Jones (Barnesville, Md./St. Johns Catholic) ended the run at the 8:14 mark of the half. The Golden Rams took a 16-3 lead at the break and held a 29-5 edge in shots.
Megan Shortt (Kernersville, N.C./E. Forsyth) led Catawba with three goals. Salay had a goal and an assist. Pyle and Hannah Cowan each had five goals for West Chester. Cifelli handed out seven assists and scored one goal.
West Chester finished the game with a 42-12 edge in shots. The Golden Rams also held a hefty edge in draw controls, winning 26 and losing just six.
Catawba returns to league action on Saturday, traveling to Lincoln Memorial for a 4 pm start.
