Kruse Has Record-Setting Day as Women's Lacrosse Tops LMU

HARROGATE, N.C. -- Junior Kirstyn Kruse (Sagamore Beach, Mass./Williston Northampton Prep) set school records for points and assists in a game as Catawba downed host Lincoln Memorial 19-13 in South Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at the LMU Soccer Complex.  The Catawba Indians improve to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the SAC, while the Lady Railsplitters fall to 2-4 and 0-2.

Kruse accounted for 12 points (five goals, seven assists) to top the previous mark of 11 points set by Ebony Mills in 2012.  Her seven assists were two more than current teammate Meredith Jones (Barnesville, Md./St. Johns Catholic) had in setting that record versus Lincoln Memorial last season.

Kruse assisted on the first two goals by Alyssa Corace (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) and Hannah Scott (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne's Co.) that gave the Lady Indians a 2-0 in the opening five minutes.  Jasmine Click would score twice for LMU to tie before Jones, Nicolette Salay (Columbus, N.J./N. Burlington Regional) and Corace scored to give Catawba a 5-2 edge with 11 minutes to go in the half.

The Lady Railsplitters used three goals in a span of a minute to pull even before Salay put Catawba up to stay at the 4:07 mark.  Kruse added two goals just 32 seconds apart and assisted on Salay's goal just before the halftime horn to make it 9-5 Catawba at the break.  Catawba answered each LMU goal over the first 13 minutes of the second half and eventually pulled out to an 18-10 lead with seven minutes remaining.

Jones and Salay each had four goals for Catawba.  Corace would score three goals.  Scott won five draw controls and caused three turnovers.  Bethany Davis (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) and Madison Anselmo (Port Jefferson, Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) shared halves in goal.  Davis had seven saves in the first half, while Anselmo stopped four shots in the final 30 minutes.

Catawba will next host Southern New Hampshire on Tuesday at 3 pm.
