Men's Lacrosse Downs Mars Hill Behind Reedy's Six Goals
MARS HILL, N.C. -- Josh Reedy (Lake Mary, Fla./Lake Mary) scored a career-high six goals as Catawba cruised past host Mars Hill in claiming a 17-6 win in South Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Mears Stadium. The Catawba Indians improve to 2-4 overall and 2-1 in the SAC. The Lions fall to 0-7 and 0-3.
The game was tied 3-3 after a quarter, but Catawba dominated the final 45 minutes to post the 11-goal victory. The Lions had tied the game at the end of the opening quarter with just a second to play on a tally by A.J. Seip.
Connor Kennedy (Weddington, N.C./Weddington/Tampa) gave Catawba the lead back in the opening minute of the second quarter and the Indians moved up 6-3 after goals by Liam Lynch (Marietta, Ga./Pope) and Reedy midway through the period. Catawba added two more before the end of the half and led 8-4 at the break.
Mars Hill posted the first goal of the second half before Catawba ran off eight goals in a row to put the game away. Reedy scored three straight goals which spanned from the 9:01 mark of the third to the 12:19 mark of the fourth to up the margin to 13-5.
Connor Eakes (Broomfield, Colo./Broomfield) came up with another huge day on face-offs as he won 20-of-22 and scooped up 15 ground balls. Kennedy, Lynch and Kevin Uba (Lakewood, Colo./Columbine) followed Reedy with two goals each. Kennedy had two helpers.
The Indians held a 43-20 edge in shots and won the ground ball battle, 40-22. Seip had two goals for the Lions and Ryan Kearney recorded nine saves.
Catawba is back in action no Monday, hosting Alabama-Huntsville at 4 pm.
