SALISBURY, N.C. -- Ben Boyd scored four goals to help lead Tusculum to an 11-6 win over host Catawba in South Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday night at Shuford Stadium. The win improves the Pioneers to 3-5 overall and 2-1 in the SAC. The Catawba Indians fall to 3-5 and 2-2.
Tusculum scored the first five goals and never let Catawba closer than four in grabbing the win. Dallas Wade notched the first goal at the 9:09 mark and Chris Ryan followed with a man-up goal 50 seconds later. Boyd made it 3-0 at the end of the quarter and it was 5-0 before Chase Scott (Charlotte, N.C./S. Mecklenburg) put the Indians on the board with 10:09 to go before the half. Wade beat the first half horn to give the Pioneers a 6-1 lead after 30 minutes.
Liam Lynch (Marietta, Ga./Pope) picked up the first goal of the second half for Catawba midway through the third, but Boyd scored back-to-back at 3:58 and then the final second of the quarter to make it 8-2. Lynch followed a Justin Warnock (Jamestown, N.C./SW Guilford) at the 12:04 mark of the fourth to close the gap to 9-4, but TC was able to keep its safe lead.
