Bowden Takes Home AstroTurf SAC Baseball Player of Week Honors
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) -- Catawba’s Chance Bowden was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player of the Week, while Daniel Nations of Newberry was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played March 21-27. It was announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Bowden, a sophomore from Salisbury, N.C., posted 13 hits, nine doubles and nine RBI to lead the Catawba Indians to a 5-0 record last week, including a series sweep over Mars Hill. He posted multiple hits in every game he played in, including four doubles vs. the Lions in game one of the double header on March 26. He drove in multiple RBI in three contests and finished the five-game span with a slugging percentage of 1.042. For the week, he batted .542 with an on-base percentage of .556 to go along with nine runs scored. The honor is his first Player of the Week plaudit this season.
Nations, a senior from Central, S.C., posted a complete game shutout win over Wingate on March 25. The right-hander struck out three hitters, scattered four hits and surrendered just two walks. The award marks his first Pitcher of the Week selection this season.
