WINGATAE, N.C. -- Wingate overcame a late two-goal deficit and topped visiting Catawba 10-9 in overtime in South Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Graham Gill Field.  The Bulldogs improve to 8-5 overall and 5-1 in the SAC.  The Catawba Indians drop to 3-7 and 2-3.

A pair of costly turnovers denied the Indians of the upset.  Leading 9-7 inside the final two minutes a turnover behind Catawba's own goal led to an empty net tally by Seth Grimwood with 1:23 to go.  Catawba had overcame a turnover off the face-off to deny Wingate, but after a clear the Indians suffered another turnover in the final 30 seconds.  Wingate raced up the field and netted the tying goal with nine seconds left in regulation.

Catawba won the overtime face-off, but a quick turnover gave Wingate possession.  Jeremy Sullivan scored the winner just under a minute into overtime after a feed from Grimwood.

Three goals in the final 10 minutes of the first half staked the Indians to a 6-4 lead at the break.  Defender Gus Weber (Georgetown, Texas/Georgetown) got the run started at the 9:47 mark.  Justin Warnock (Jamestown, N.C./SW Guilford) would score a man-up with 6:25 to go in the half and Josh Reedy (Lake Mary, Fla./Lake Mary) put in the final goal of the half at the 2:56 mark.

Cole Fanzo (Crofton, Md./S. River) made it 7-4 Catawba with an early goal in the first minute of the second half.  Wingate responded with the next three goals, tying the game on Grimwood's goal early in the fourth.  Connor Kennedy (Weddington, N.C./Weddington/Tampa) gave Catawba the lead back with 12:25 left and Fanzo put the Indians up 9-7 on his goal with 4:23 to go before Wingate fought back.

Kennedy, Reedy, Fanzo and Warnock all scored twice for Catawba.  Connor Eakes (Broomfield, Colo./Broomfield) controlled the face-off circle, winning 19-of-22 and scooped up nine ground balls.  Ryan Applegate (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Ponte Vedra) collected 16 saves.

Alex Llerandi netted three goals for Wingate, including the tying goal in the final seconds.  Grimwood, Jeremy Sullivan and Daniel Godwin put in a pair of goals.  Jacob Ormerod recorded 21 saves in the pipes for Wingate.

Catawba continues a stretch of four straight road games next Saturday as the Indians travel to Shorter for a 2 pm face-off.
