Indians Fall 8-1 to Queens in SAC action

SALISBURY, NC -- The Catawba College tennis teams each fell to Queens University in South Atlantic Conference action Thursday afternoon at Catawba's Johnson Tennis Center. The Catawba Lady Indians were swept 9-0 to drop to 11-11 on the season and 2-8 in the SAC. Queens' women improve to 9-2 overall and 7-1 in conference. On the men's side, Catawba fell 8-1 to drop to 9-11 on the year and 4-6 in the South Atlantic Conference. Queens also advances to 9-2 and 7-1, respectively.

The Lady Indians were swept in doubles action to fall behind 0-3. Catawba's top pairing of Liz Renteria and Erisa Onchi forced the score to 8-6 before falling while the other two doubles fell 8-1. In singles play Onchi took the first set at #2 singles 6-7 before dropping the next two sets 6-0 and 10-7. Lauren Sledd came close in a pro-set match before losing to Claire Hamilton 9-7 at the fifth flight.

On the men's side Queens swept Catawba with three 8-2 doubles matches. Lucca Picca recorded the lone point for Catawba at the #4 position with an 8-3 victory over Giovanni Setti. Lucas Miller and Iago Montero Nunez took their matches to three sets but neither were able to clinch a win. Jules Anthalis took down Miller at the second position by scores of 6-1, 6-7, 6-4. Zachary Williams defeated Nunez at #6 4-6, 6-1, 7-5.

Catawba will return to action on Saturday as the Indians host Mars Hill at 1:00 p.m.
