Searles' Walk Sends Baseball Past L-R 6-5

SALISBURY, NC -- Scott Searles (Boston, MA) drew a bases-loaded walk with one out in the bottom of the ninth as Catawba College picked up a 6-5 win over visiting Lenoir-Rhyne in non-conference baseball action on Wednesday afternoon at Newman Park. The Indians even their record at 6-6 with the win, while Lenoir-Rhyne falls to 2-4.Catawba jumped out to a 4-0 lead after six innings, but had to rally after a five-run seventh by the Bears. Matt Sigmon (Catawba, NC) capped the Lenoir-Rhyne inning with a three-run homer. Catawba answered to tie the game in its seventh on a two-out single by Jimbo Davis (Salisbury, NC). In the ninth, Matt Baker (Charlotte, NC) led off the inning with a double. Aaron Rimer (Salisbury, NC) was walked intentionally and the runners moved up on a wild pitch. Andrew Daywalt (Mocksville, NC) drew a walk and after a force out at the plate, Searles drew a walk on a 3-2 pitch. Rimer doubled in the first Indian run with two outs in the first, Davis sent a two-run shot to left-center in the fourth and Rimer grounded out to force in Baker who had tripled, in the fifth. Offensively, for the Indians, Davis went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Rimer, also went 2-for-4 with two RBI. The Bears were led by leadoff man Brian Neill (Charlotte, NC) going 3-for-5 on the day with one run batted in. Jeff Abdelnour (Cohoes, NY) pitched six innings, scattering just four hits and surrendering one run in the no decision. Matt Fairweather (Lenoir, NC) pitched two perfect innings in relief, picking up his first win of the season. Lenoir-Rhyne used seven different pitchers in the contest, Bobby Kennett (Englewood, FL) taking the loss, with the bases loaded walk in the ninth. #####
