Taylor's 76 Leads Men's Golf After Day One of SAC Championships


ETOWAH, N.C. -- Catawba stood in 12th place after Sunday’s opening round of the 2016 South Atlantic Conference Men’s Golf Championships.  The 54-hole tournament is being held at the 6,892-yard, par-72 Etowah Valley Golf Club. 

Jordan Taylor’s (Troy, N.C./W. Montgomery/Campbell) 76 led Catawba in the opening round and he sits in 26th overall.  Taylor bounced back from an opening triple bogey with four birdies to offset five bogeys over the final 17 holes.  He closed with birdies on No. 16 and No. 18 to shoot one-over-par on the final nine.

Tyler Mulkey (Salisbury, N.C./N. Rowan/Charlotte) posted a 78.  Mulkey had 13 pars and four bogeys before a double-bogey on the 18th.  Dagur Ebenezersson (Reykjavik, Iceland/Borgarholtsskoli) had the other birdie for Catawba with a three on the par-four second.

Lenoir-Rhyne and Carson-Newman share the lead after one round.  Both shot team scores of 295, three shots better than Mars Hill.  Hunter McCombs, of Lenoir-Rhyne, and Jon Noble, of Queens, share the individual lead after posting two-under-par scores of 70.  Seven golfers are three shots back.
