Women's Lacrosse Drops Regular Season Finale to L-R
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Lenoir-Rhyne posted a 15-9 win over host Catawba in South Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Shuford Stadium. The Bears improve to 10-6 overall and 7-1 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 7-9 and 4-4. Catawba finished in a three-way tie for fourth place in the league, but fell to the sixth seed.
Lenoir-Rhyne began to pull away in the final 12 minutes of the first half. Leading 3-1, the Bears would increase their edge to 11-3 by the break. Catawba rallied from 12-3 down with four straight goals to close within 12-7 with 13:52 remaining. Meredith Jones (Barnesville, Md./St. John's Catholic) had two of the goals. The Bears struck twice in just over 30 seconds to go up 15-7 with 9:26 left.
Alyssa Corace (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) scored three goals for the Lady Indians and handed out a pair of assists. Jones also had three goals. Megan Shortt (Kernersville, N.C./E. Forsyth) had a goal and two helpers. Bethany Davis (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) recorded 11 saves.
Emily Kessler and Gabby Sousa each had three goals for Lenoir-Rhyne. Claire Wach scored twice and handed out three assists. Ines Flueck posted 16 saves in goal.
Catawba will travel to #3-seed Wingate to open the conference tournament on Tuesday.
