Tennis Adds Four to Incoming Class
SALISBURY, NC -- The Catawba College tennis coach, Jeff Childress, announced the addition of two players to each of the men’s and women’s roster for the 2016-17 season. Sophie Hirsch (Markleeberg, GERMANY/Leipzig International School) and Olivia Wooldridge (Whitby, NEW ZEALAND/St. Mary’s College) will look to bolster the Lady Indians roster while Cason Hiers (Fort Myers, Florida/Cypress Lake) and Adam Rocko (Johns Creek, Georgia/Pinecrest Academy) will hope to contribute on the men’s side.
Hirsch, a five sport athlete in high school, was named captain of her tennis team and will seek a degree in psychology. Hirsch also lettered in soccer, cross country, volleyball, and track and field. Wooldridge also captained her tennis team in high school, as well as her netball team.
Wooldridge also played five sports including tennis, netball, volleyball, handball, and basketball. Wooldridge will enter Catawba looking to major in communications.
Hiers was named to the all-conference team on five occasions and made the all-state team once. Hiers made it to the state tournament a three occasions and helped the Panthers become regional runner-up in 2013-14. Continuing the tennis pedigree, Hiers’ father, Gregory, played for Weber College during his time.
Rocko, the younger brother of Kristen Rocko on the women’s team, was ranked 39th in Georgia after his senior season. At the #1 singles position, Rocko held a record of 33-3 and made the All-Region team on all three years with the Paladins. Besides tennis, Rocko lettered in three years of basketball with Pinecrest while also becoming a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society.
