Work Begins on Locker Room Renovations in Abernethy PE Center
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba College Athletic Director, Larry Leckonby, has announced the beginning of demolition and the renovation of the men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball locker rooms on the lower level of the Abernethy Physical Education Center. The project is set to be completed by the end of the summer.
The renovations will include a redesign of the section that is home to the volleyball and women’s basketball teams. The existing restroom will be configured for use by the public, while the teams will get new restroom and shower facilities.
“It is an exciting time for the basketball and volleyball teams here at Catawba College,” stated Head Women’s Basketball Coach Angie Morton. “Having the newly renovated locker rooms along with the new gymnasium is putting us at the top of the South Atlantic Conference as far as facilities go.”
“Updating the locker rooms goes perfectly after the renovation of the gym,” said Head Volleyball Coach Ginger Hamric. “It shows our recruits that the college is very serious about their success here. The renovations and growth of projects on campus solidifies my commitment to work hard and do my part to raise the level of our program.”
The men’s basketball locker room and the section currently used by men’s swimming will also be redesigned and will include two separate locker room facilities with new separate shower and bathroom facilities. All locker rooms will have new carpeting along with new lighting. A total of 72 new lockers will be installed, 18 for each locker room.
"The locker room project is exciting for our team and our coaching staff, commented Head Men’s Basketball Coach Rob Perron. “Upgrading an area where our students athletes spend time every day will enhance the experience and will help with recruiting. We are so grateful to be wearing Catawba name across our chest as alumni and friends support our commitment to excellence on and off the court."
As a supporter of Catawba athletics, you have the opportunity to leave a lasting legacy and be a part of a great tradition by sponsoring a locker in the remodeled Abernethy Physical Education Center. Donors will be recognized for their generosity in the locker rooms.
“We hope that alumni will be proud and help us raise the level even more, with the opportunity to give back and show pride in the program with the naming opportunities,” continued Hamric. “I know I will be making a contribution in honor of those that laid the foundation, in particular, Dr. Pat Whitley.”
The cost of a locker sponsorship is $1,500, and all gifts are eligible for a three-year pledge. A locker can be donated for as little as $500 per year over a three-year period, which works out to only a little more than $40 a month to name a locker. To donate to the project please contact Larry Leckonby (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Joey Knight (email@example.com) for a pledge form.
