Men's Soccer Falls at Mars Hill
MARS HILL, N.C. -- Host Mars Hill overcame an early 1-0 deficit to claim a 3-1 victory in South Atlantic Conference men’s soccer action on Saturday at Meares Stadium. The Lions improve to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 2-2 and 1-1.
The Indians jumped on top with a goal just three minutes into the contest. Tim Frederik-Lange (Limburgerhof, Germany) put in a long pass from Belony Joseph (Charlotte, N.C./C. Cabarrus) for the early edge.
Mars Hill leveled the match in 33rd minute on the first of two goals from Franck Lannaud. He headed home his first goal on a cross from Amine Merdjett. His second goal came five minutes into the second half. Elliot Tate sent a long ball to Lannaud, who just beat the keeper to it and snuck it into the back of the net. That lead would grow to 3-1 on the hour when Stian Sanner converted off a pass from Adnan Saltagic.
The Lions held a 14-10 edge in shots and had a seven to five advantage on corners. Christian Watts (Plymouth, England/Andover Central(KS) HS) recorded one save in goal. Kristofer Winnen collected five saves in goal for the Lions.
Catawba travels to Lenoir-Rhyne for a 7 p.m. match on Wednesday.
