Men's Soccer Blanked by Lenoir-Rhyne
HICKORY, N.C. -- Host Lenoir-Rhyne picked up a 3-0 win over Catawba in South Atlantic Conference men’s soccer action on Wednesday night at Irwin Belk Track. The Bears improve to 4-2-1 overall and 1-1 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 2-3 and 1-2.
After a scoreless first half, DeJean Charloton broke the ice just over five minutes into the final 45 with a goal off a free kick from Marc Fernandez. Charlton would assist on the next LR goal which came in the 71st minute, sending a pass across the box to the foot of Emil Tansinda.
The Bears added a final goal in the 84th minute. Ismael Noumansan got the tally off another free kick from Fernandez.
Catawba equaled the 14 shots by the Bears, but L-R keeper Zach King stopped all six Indian shots on goal in posting the shutout. Joe Gonzalez (Marion, N.Y./Marion/LeMoyne) recorded five saves for Catawba.
Catawba will host Coker on Saturday night at 7:30 pm.
