Sheehan And Woodard Picked As SAC Football Players Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) -- The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf SAC Football Players of the Week for games played the fourth week of the season. Catawba quarterback Mike Sheehan was tabbed the Offensive Player of the Week, while Catawba defensive back Case Woodard was named the Defensive Player of the Week. Meanwhile, Brevard kicker Dayton Rogers picked up Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
Sheehan, a senior from Wilmington, N.C., threw for two touchdowns and added a pair of rushing touchdowns to lead the Catawba College Catawba Indians to a 48-26 win over then undefeated Wingate on Sept. 24. He completed 14-of-20 passes for 238 yards, including a 67-yard touchdown strike in the second half. On the ground, Sheehan grinded out 41 yards on 13 rushes. The honor marks his first Offensive Player of the Week nod this season.
Woodard, a senior from Snellville, Ga., scored a defensive touchdown for the second-straight week as he scooped up a fumble and returned it 54 yards to give Catawba a 21-3 lead late in the first half. He caused a fumble on Wingate’s possession prior to his touchdown that set up a Catawba Indians’ touchdown. Woodard also finished the day with 10 total tackles and two pass breakups. The award is his second-straight Defensive Player of the Week plaudit.
Rogers, a senior from Belmont, N.C., went a perfect 5-for-5 on his PAT attempts and drilled a field goal from 46 yards to help the Tornados to a 38-7 win over the Apprentice School on Sept. 24. The award is his first Special Teams Player of the Week selection this season.
